Privacy Policy
Introduction
Welcome to our centralized campus network. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our platform. We are committed to maintaining the privacy and security of your data while providing a seamless campus-based networking experience. By using our service, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide during onboarding including your name, selected campus, and campus-id assignment. We store your profile details such as banner images, profile pictures, resume, GitHub activity data, social media links, and portfolio URLs. For marketplace functionality, we collect phone numbers for verification purposes and allow up to 5 product images. We also maintain role assignments (overlord, campus-admin, club-admin, journalist, broadcaster) linked to specific entities like clubs or campuses, and logs of your actions for security and moderation purposes. Technical data including IP addresses, device information, and usage patterns are automatically collected through Firebase, Redis, and Next.js analytics.
Campus-Based Content Isolation
Our platform operates on a campus-specific model. Your campus-id determines what content you see and access. Signed-in users only view content related to their assigned campus, including posts, marketplace items, projects, and events. If you are not signed in, you will see content from a default campus only. This isolation ensures relevant local networking while preventing unauthorized cross-campus data access.
Role Hierarchy and Permissions
The platform implements a hierarchical role system that determines your access levels and capabilities. Roles include overlord (platform-wide access), campus-admin (campus-specific administration), club-admin (organization management), journalist (content creation), and broadcaster (official announcements). Your roles are stored as an array of objects containing the role type and associated entity ID. These permissions control what actions you can perform and what data you can access or modify within your specific campus or organizational scope.
How We Use Your Information
We use your data to provide and personalize campus-specific services, facilitate marketplace transactions, enable project showcasing, and manage event participation. Your information powers the infinite scroll feed mixing posts, marketplace items, and projects. We use phone verification to ensure marketplace safety and employ AI filtering to detect and remove inappropriate marketplace listings based on names and descriptions. Logs are maintained to track actions for security auditing, content moderation, and platform improvement. We may use your data to display relevant advertisements on the platform.
Marketplace Phone Number Sharing
When you list items on the marketplace, your phone number is collected for verification purposes. By listing a product, you acknowledge that your phone number will be visible to other signed-in users who view your product listing and choose to contact you for purchase. This sharing is limited to active buyers viewing your specific listing and requires the viewer to be authenticated. We recommend listing only items you are comfortable sharing contact information for, as this is essential for facilitating offline transactions between campus community members.
Advertising
We may implement advertising on the platform to support our services. Advertisers may receive aggregated, non-personal data about user demographics and campus trends, but we do not sell your individual personal information, including your name, email, phone number, or browsing history, to third parties for profit. Any ads displayed will be targeted based on campus affiliation and general usage patterns rather than sensitive personal data.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for profit. We share data only with service providers necessary for platform operation including Firebase for authentication and database services, Redis for caching, and hosting providers for Next.js deployment. Your phone number is shared only with authenticated users viewing your marketplace listings as described above. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect platform security. AI processing for marketplace filtering occurs through secure third-party APIs with data processing agreements.
Events and Team Formation
When participating in events, your profile information may be visible to other users seeking team members. This includes your name, skills, projects, and contact methods you have chosen to display on your public profile. Event-specific updates and announcements will be delivered according to your notification preferences and role permissions.
AI Chatbot Interactions
Our help page features an AI chatbot to assist with rules, regulations, and platform guidance. Conversations with the chatbot may be logged to improve service quality. Do not share sensitive personal information, passwords, or financial details with the AI assistant. These interactions are monitored for safety and training purposes.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures through our tech stack including Firebase security rules, Redis encryption, and Next.js security features. While we strive to protect your data, no internet transmission is completely secure. We restrict access to personal data to authorized personnel based on the role hierarchy, with overlord and campus-admin roles having elevated access for moderation and support purposes only.
Your Rights and Choices
You can access and update your profile information, including resume, social links, and portfolio, through your user profile page. You may request deletion of your account and associated data, though some information may be retained in logs for security or legal compliance. You can modify your role-associated entities through appropriate channels, though certain administrative roles require verification. For marketplace privacy, you can remove listings at any time to cease phone number visibility.
Data Retention
We retain your account information and profile data as long as you maintain an active account. Marketplace listings and associated phone number visibility persist until you delete the listing or your account. Logs of actions are retained for security and auditing purposes for a limited period. Project listings and posts remain visible according to your privacy settings and campus association until manually removed or archived.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes through platform announcements or email. Continued use of the campus network after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The effective date will always be listed at the top of this document.
